Breast lift
A breast lift for a firmer, higher and natural breast shape. An individual approach, a safe procedure and a long-lasting result.
A breast lift (mastopexy) is a plastic surgery procedure that lifts and firms sagging breasts, restores their youthful shape and improves symmetry. It is the ideal solution for women after pregnancy and breastfeeding, after significant weight loss or with a natural descent caused by age and gravity. The aim is firmer, higher breasts that look natural — without any feeling of “artificiality”.
How a breast lift is performed
The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia and usually takes 2–3 hours, depending on the degree of sagging and any combination with another procedure (augmentation or reduction). The aim is to remove excess, loose skin while the breast tissue is preserved and carefully reshaped, gaining better projection, fullness and a firmer base. The nipple and areola are moved to a higher, natural position so that the breasts look more youthful and in harmony with the figure.
The incision technique is chosen individually according to the degree of sagging and the amount of skin to be removed:
- Vertical technique (lollipop) – the most common choice, giving a good result with moderate sagging and leaving fewer scars
- T technique (anchor) – suitable for more pronounced sagging, a large amount of excess skin or a combination with breast reduction
Scar care
The aesthetic result depends not only on the operation itself but also on how you look after the scars in the following months. Proper aftercare greatly reduces how visible they are.
From the third week after the operation, start pressure massage of the scars: press on the scar with your fingertip for 15 seconds, then carefully lift the finger, move it a little further along and repeat along the whole scar. Do not rub along the scar with your finger so as not to damage it. Use a rich cream (e.g. Bepanthen or petroleum jelly), which makes the movement easier and nourishes the scar at the same time. Repeat this 5 times a day — regularity is key to the best result.
To support healing and flatten the scars, use silicone patches, which are readily available in pharmacies. The patches significantly reduce redness, itching and thickening of the scars.
Protect the scars from the sun for at least 3 months after the operation. Even after that, use a cream with a high UV filter (SPF 50+) on exposed areas, because the sun causes hyperpigmentation and worsens the appearance of scars for years.
By following these steps you will make sure the scars after a breast lift stay as inconspicuous as possible and the result looks even more natural. At the consultation we will be happy to explain the care that fits your case exactly and recommend the right approach.
When a breast lift is suitable
It is most often sought by women who have:
- Sagging breasts with nipples pointing downwards
- Loss of volume in the upper part of the breasts
- Stretched skin and loss of elasticity
- Asymmetry or “empty” breasts after breastfeeding or weight loss
If you want not only a lift but also more volume, a breast lift can safely be combined with breast augmentation (augmentation mastopexy) or, on the contrary, with breast reduction (reduction mastopexy).

After the breast tissue has been reshaped and the nipple moved, drains are placed for 1–2 days to remove excess fluid and minimise the risk of a haematoma or seroma. At the end of the operation a firm elastic bandage or a special compression bra is applied, which stabilises the new shape, supports healing and reduces swelling. The procedure is designed to be as safe as possible, with minimal loss of sensation and the best possible long-term aesthetic result.
Recovery and result
Recovery after a breast lift takes about 2 weeks — rest is recommended for the first week. Swelling and bruising are most pronounced in this phase but fade quickly: after 10–14 days most women return to their normal routine, including lighter work, driving or short walks.
Full physical activity is possible after 6–8 weeks, when the tissues have fully stabilised and the risk of the new shape shifting is minimal. Ideally the compression bra is worn for 4–6 weeks, which helps the skin adhere better and speeds up healing. The scars gradually improve — the redness fades and they become lighter and flatter, so they remain relatively discreet and easy to cover.
The result usually lasts 10–15 years (sometimes longer), depending on age, skin elasticity, lifestyle, any further pregnancies, weight fluctuations or genetics. The breasts stay firmer, higher and with a much better shape than before the operation. Over time the shape settles even further and naturally “fits” the figure.
