Otoplasty
Correction of protruding ears (otoplasty) for children and adults. A permanent result, a gentle outpatient procedure and a natural look.
Otoplasty is a simple but very effective procedure that corrects protruding or unnaturally shaped ears. It brings quick relief — to children from the age of 6–7 and to adults alike — and restores confidence in everyday life. We perform it as an outpatient procedure, with barely visible scars and a natural result that lasts for life.
How otoplasty is performed
The procedure is fully outpatient. It is performed under local anaesthesia or analgosedation, so you are relaxed and awake, feel no pain and stay in natural contact with the doctor. The whole procedure usually takes 60–90 minutes, depending on how complex the case is.
The incision is hidden behind the ear — once fully healed it is almost invisible. The surgeon gently separates the skin from the cartilage, softens the cartilage with small incisions, reshapes it into the desired position and fixes it firmly with internal permanent stitches that stay in the tissue. The skin is laid back over the reshaped cartilage and the incision is closed with absorbable stitches. At the end of the operation a firm protective bandage is applied, which stabilises the new shape of the ear and protects the area from swelling and irritation.
The technique is gentle and precise and designed to leave minimal visible traces and a stable long-term result. If you are worried about pain or about the procedure itself, we will be happy to explain everything in detail at a consultation.
Correction of protruding ears
Otoplasty is a cosmetic operation that corrects the position and shape of the ears — most often ears that stick out noticeably, are unusually large or asymmetric. It is one of the few plastic surgery procedures performed on young children (from 6–7 years), because by then the ears are almost fully developed and the correction can greatly ease the distress caused by teasing or insecurity at school. It is just as popular with adults of all ages.

Aftercare and recovery
After 4 days the bandage is removed and the patient continues wearing a special firm headband (ideally overnight) for 2 weeks, which makes sure the new shape of the ear settles properly. Recovery takes around 2 weeks. Rest is recommended for the first week while swelling and bruising gradually fade. After 10–14 days most people return to their normal routine (children often sooner). The scar behind the ear remains minimal and becomes almost invisible over time.
A permanent result and real relief
The result of otoplasty is permanent — once corrected, the ears stay in their new, natural position for life. After shaping and fixing, the cartilage stabilises so that it does not return to its original protruding position. The change is usually very noticeable as soon as the bandage comes off: the ears sit close to the head and look symmetrical and harmonious.
For children and teenagers this is often a turning point — they stop being embarrassed about their ears, dare to wear short hair and join in sport and group activities without fear of being teased. Many parents say their child became more confident, more open and happier at school and among friends after the procedure. For adults the correction brings similar relief: the freedom to do sport without worrying, to wear hairstyles that show the ears, or to feel more at ease in intimate situations and in public.
