Fibromas - how they arise and how to remove them
Fibromas are among the most common benign skin growths that people encounter. These are benign skin changes that are not dangerous, but often cause aesthetic or mechanical problems. At Hello Beauty Clinic, we perform precise removal of fibromas with an emphasis on minimal scarring and the best possible cosmetic result.
What are fibromas and why do they form
A fibroma is a benign tumor arising from the connective tissue of the skin. It most often appears as a soft growth on a stalk or as a flat swelling. It most often affects areas with thinner skin - the neck, armpits, groin, eyelids and décolleté.
The main causes of fibromas:
- Genetic predisposition
- Age (more common after 40)
- Skin friction (e.g. on the neck or in the armpits)
- Autoimmune diseases
- Hormonal influences
- Overweight
Fibromas themselves are not dangerous, they do not grow deep and do not tend to change malignantly.
Types of fibromas
There are two basic types of fibromas that we most often encounter in practice. The first and by far the most common is soft fibroma, professionally called fibroma molle or acrochordon. This is a small, soft growth of the skin that often grows on a thin stalk. It typically appears on the neck, armpits, groin, eyelids, or décolleté.
The second type is the hard fibroma, also known as dermatofibroma. This is firmer, flatter, and has a more compact structure. It occurs primarily on the lower extremities and is significantly less common than the soft fibroma.

When is it appropriate to remove fibroids
We recommend removing fibroids in situations where these growths cause aesthetic, functional or health problems. The most common reason is aesthetic discomfort - fibroids in visible places, such as the neck, décolleté or eyelids, often reduce self-confidence and lead to the choice of clothing that helps to cover them.
Another significant reason is mechanical irritation. Fibroids located in the armpits, groin, neck or under the breasts often rub against clothing, chains, bras or collars. This leads to repeated irritation, redness, pain and sometimes even minor injuries.
Removal is also appropriate in cases where fibroids bleed, become inflamed or become a gateway for infections. The risk increases especially with larger growths that can easily catch or rub. We also recommend surgery if the fibroid is growing rapidly, changing color, shape or surface – even if it is a benign formation, such a change always requires a professional assessment.
Timely professional removal prevents unnecessary complications and ensures a better aesthetic result.
Methods of fibroid removal
At Hello Beauty Clinic, we always choose the removal method individually according to the size, location and type of fibroid.
We most often use:
- Surgical removal – precise excision with a scalpel followed by gentle suturing of the wound. This method is ideal for larger fibroids and allows the tissue to be sent for histological examination.
- Liquid nitrogen (cryotherapy) – a fast and gentle method in which the doctor freezes the fibroid with liquid nitrogen to an extremely low temperature. The frozen tissue then dies and falls off within a few days. This technique is particularly suitable for smaller and pedunculated fibroids. It is fast, does not require stitches and healing usually occurs without a scar.
- Electrocautery – removal with high-frequency electric current, which quickly burns and removes the fibroid. The method is very precise, minimizes bleeding and is suitable for small to medium growths.
We perform all procedures on an outpatient basis and with maximum emphasis on aesthetic results.
Procedure at Hello Beauty Clinic
First, the doctor will perform a dermatological examination and assess whether the removal is appropriate. Then, she will apply local anesthesia and remove the fibroid using the selected method. The entire procedure usually takes 15–40 minutes, depending on the number of lesions and the selected method.
After the procedure, we will provide you with detailed instructions for healing and recommend appropriate care for the treated area to minimize the visibility of the scar after the procedure.

Q&A – Frequently Asked Questions About Fibroids
Does fibroid removal hurt?
Thanks to local anesthesia, the procedure is virtually painless. You may only feel slight pressure.
Will there be a scar after removal?
For small fibroids, the scar is minimal or almost invisible. For larger growths, a small scar will remain, which can be treated with laser later.
Can fibroids come back?
They usually do not grow back in the same place. However, a new fibroid may appear in the area.
Is it necessary to remove all fibroids?
No. If they do not bother you aesthetically or mechanically, they do not need to be removed.
How long does it take for the area to heal after removal?
Smaller wounds heal in 7-14 days. Larger findings may take 2-3 weeks to heal.
Fibroids may no longer be a problem
