Polynucleotides (salmon DNA)

Polynucleotides do not add volume to the skin — they teach it to renew itself. They are highly purified DNA fragments from salmon milt that trigger the skin's own production of collagen and elastin. At the clinic we use the Italian product Plenhyage.

Polynucleotide treatment at a glance

How polynucleotides work

Polynucleotides act as signalling molecules: they activate fibroblasts, the cells that produce collagen and elastin in the skin. Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, they add nothing to the skin and do not change its shape — they change its inner structure.

The raw material goes through multi-stage purification that leaves no proteins or fats in it. The resulting gel is sterile and stable and usually causes no allergic reaction, even in people allergic to fish; we still do not recommend the treatment for them.

What the treatment helps with

• fine wrinkles and lines on the forehead and around the eyes and mouth
• loss of firmness and sagging skin on the face and neck
• uneven skin tone and small acne scars
• tired, dehydrated or thinning skin

The method also suits the eye area, where classic fillers are often not the ideal choice, and it combines well with other treatments — it improves the quality of the skin, so other procedures then work better on it. You will find more in the article Polynucleotides.

How the treatment works

First we cleanse the skin thoroughly and apply a numbing cream for more sensitive clients. We then inject the product with fine injections into the middle layer of the skin, much as in mesotherapy. Slight redness or minor swelling at the injection site may appear after the treatment; both usually fade within one or two days.

Plenhyage comes in several concentrations — a lower one for fine wrinkles and sensitive areas, a higher one for more marked irregularities on the face, neck or body. The doctor chooses which one according to the condition of your skin.

When we do not recommend the treatment

We do not apply polynucleotides during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with an acute skin infection, or with an allergy to fish products. That is why every treatment is preceded by a consultation at which the doctor assesses your health and whether the method suits you.
