Who examines your child
Children are examined by MUDr. Veronika Svobodová — a board-certified dermatologist with a specialisation in paediatric dermatology, who also teaches dermatology at the Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen.
The examination does not hurt: the doctor looks at the skin and moles with a dermatoscope, a special magnifier with a light. Your child undresses to their underwear and a parent stays throughout.
What to bring your child for
- A mole check – a new, growing or unusual mole, many moles, a large congenital mole, melanoma in the family.
- Removing a mole or skin growth – when it rubs on clothing, bleeds or needs to be examined histologically. Always after a check.

Do I need a referral to a dermatologist for my child?
No. You can book a mole check yourself.
Does a mole check hurt?
No. The doctor simply looks at the moles with a dermatoscope — a special magnifier with a light that is placed on the skin.
Will you remove the mole at the first visit?
There is always a check first. The doctor assesses whether removal is appropriate and by which method, and agrees the next step with you.
Must a parent be present?
Yes. For anyone under 18 a parent or guardian must be present, and they stay with the child throughout.
Is it covered by health insurance?
You pay for the examination according to the clinic’s price list — which is why you need no referral and do not wait long for an appointment. Some health insurers do contribute, so ask yours.
