Removing moles and skin growths in children
Removing moles and skin growths in children in Pilsen – always after an examination by a dermatologist, by a gentle method suited to the child’s age.
Most children’s moles never need removing. Sometimes, though, it makes sense — when a mole rubs on clothing, keeps bleeding, or the doctor wants to examine it under the microscope. In children the dermatologist always decides this after an examination.
When removal is considered
- a mole or growth rubs on clothing, a backpack strap or a waistband and keeps getting injured,
- it bleeds, gets inflamed or does not heal,
- the doctor is not happy with a mole and wants it examined histologically,
- other skin growths that bother the child, such as warts or skin tags.
Always a check first
Every removal is preceded by a mole check with a dermatoscope. The doctor decides whether removal is appropriate, by which method and when — taking into account the child’s age and the size and position of the growth.
Smaller growths can be removed by the gentle methods described on our mole removal page. Larger or suspicious ones are removed surgically under local anaesthetic and the tissue is sent for histology.

Children are examined by MUDr. Veronika Svobodová — a board-certified dermatologist with a specialisation in paediatric dermatology, who also teaches dermatology at the Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen.
After the procedure
You will get detailed instructions for caring for the wound at home. Keep the area out of the sun so it heals with as fine a scar as possible. If the growth was sent for histology, the doctor goes through the result with you.

Frequently asked questions
Will you remove the mole at the first visit?
There is always a check first. Only then does the doctor decide whether and how to remove the mole, and agree a date with you.
Does mole removal hurt?
Depending on the method, it is done under local anaesthetic, so the child does not feel the removal itself. Only the small prick of the anaesthetic may be unpleasant.
Will there be a scar?
Most methods leave a small scar that fades over time. The doctor chooses the method with the best cosmetic result in mind as well.
