How a facelift is performed
We perform the procedure under analgosedation or general anaesthesia, depending on its extent and your preferences. We use the gentle MACS lift technique (Minimal Access Cranial Suspension), which minimises scarring and shortens healing time. The incision runs from the hairline at the temple down along the front edge of the ear and ends below the earlobe — once healed it is practically invisible. During the operation excess skin is released and removed from the cheeks, the muscle and connective tissue layer beneath the skin is tightened for a long-lasting effect, and the incisions are closed with absorbable stitches. Drains are placed under the skin of the neck and cheeks to remove fluid, and an elastic bandage is applied to hold everything in place and reduce swelling.
Aftercare and recovery
Recovery takes about 2–3 weeks, and every patient goes through it a little differently depending on age, skin type and the extent of the procedure. Rest is recommended for the first week — sleeping with the head raised, no heavy lifting, avoiding heat (sauna, hot showers, sun) and keeping facial expressions to a minimum. Swelling and bruising are at their strongest in this phase but fade quickly. After 10–14 days most patients return to their normal life and social activities — any remaining bruising is easy to cover with make-up and the scars are already very discreet.
The result lasts a long time — usually 10–12 years or more, depending on lifestyle, genetics and regular skin care. Many patients continue with minimally invasive treatments after a facelift (BTX, fillers), which extend the result even further.
