When BTX application is appropriate
This is an injectable application of a drug that is basically justified wherever it is necessary to limit muscle contraction for therapeutic reasons (e.g. mimicry, spasm). The most common use of neurotoxin is to reduce wrinkles, i.e. to reduce unwanted mimicry of the treated area.
For whom BTX treatment is intended
The treatment is for anyone who wants to effectively combat the signs of aging. Changes occurring with age, cumulative doses of UV radiation, possibly also e.g. episodes of greater weight loss or lifestyle excesses (gradual loss of skin elasticity, changes in connective tissue and hydration in the subcutaneous tissue, changes in adipose tissue, muscles and bones) mean that at an older age the benefit of using neurotoxin to treat certain wrinkles is already more limited and other methods may be more justified.

Smoothing of forehead wrinkles
We notice them at first glance and we don't like them. They add to our age and make us look gloomy. Especially people with pronounced facial expressions start noticing forehead wrinkles very early. One of the options to remove forehead wrinkles is BTX application.
Removal of frown lines - wrinkles between the eyebrows
Glabellar lines are one of the most common reasons people seek an aesthetic doctor, as they give an unpleasantly stern or frowning expression to the face. The glabella is the area between the eyebrows and the root of the nose. By applying neurotoxins (BTX products), we can temporarily block the delicate nerve endings in the facial muscles of the treated area, preventing movement of these muscles. How wrinkles are formed
The main cause of wrinkles is the natural aging process, where wrinkles form as we age:
- the structure of the skin changes - the skin loses its ability to regenerate and renew cells
- connective tissue cells, called fibroblasts, form less collagen
All of this means that the skin loses its elasticity, becomes less hydrated, and is therefore much more prone to wrinkles, especially the facial ones that form when we laugh, frown, wonder or get angry. The skin is no longer as able to return to its original shape and fine lines appear first, then deep lines.
How to get rid of wrinkles
There are several types of wrinkle reduction treatments. As a rule, they can be divided into several main groups. However, the first two methods are the most effective:
- BTX wrinkle treatments
- hyaluronic acid fillers - so-called fillers, which, due to the properties of hyaluronic acid, which can bind a large amount of water to itself, hydrate and fill in wrinkles that have already formed

How neurotoxins work for wrinkle correction
These are preparations using substances produced by specific bacteria Clostridium botulinum for their ability to block the nerve endings of muscle fibres. The paralysed muscle fibres make it impossible to move the muscle for a certain period of time, thus limiting the formation of wrinkles on the skin in that area. Pre-existing wrinkles relax due to reduced muscle mobility, resulting in overall smoother skin and a relaxed facial expression.
How to get rid of wrinkles on the forehead
Forehead wrinkles are associated with wisdom and experience. But we don't actually want to have them. Because they look severe. This is the case both for horizontal lines on the forehead and for vertical lines between the eyebrows and the root of the nose, the so-called glabellar lines. Neurotoxin correction is suitable for smoothing out forehead wrinkles.
Before wrinkle removal
Our doctor will examine you, evaluate the indication for BTX application, the condition of your skin, listen to your expectations, suggest the most appropriate treatment procedure and point out any other treatment alternatives. We recommend that you limit your alcohol and nicotine consumption and arrive without makeup before the procedure.
How BTX treatment works
The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis. As a rule, no numbing is required prior to the procedure, as this could distort the initial state of the wrinkles, possibly affecting the diffusion of the drug - i.e. its effect. BTX is administered in very small doses, by injection. Reserve about 10 to 30 minutes for the procedure. The length of the procedure depends on the amount of substance injected and the areas to be treated. The doctor will first disinfect the area and then inject a specified amount of the product into the area with a fine needle. Occasionally, a small bruise may appear, which will disappear within a few days.
When will I see the result of the wrinkle smoothing
Full onset is individual and takes 3 to 14 days. Gradually, the mimicry of the treated area will be reduced and the mimic wrinkles will be softened or even smoothed, which lasts individually for a long time - usually 3 to 8 months, exceptionally longer. If the forehead is treated with neurotoxin (BTX) (wrinkles on the forehead, nasal root), a secondary benefit of the procedure is the reduction or complete disappearance of certain types of headaches (headaches from concentration, from muscle contraction at the root of the nose) for the duration of the BTX effect.
Smoothing of wrinkles and pain
The described procedure leading to the removal of wrinkles does not usually hurt, especially if you undergo it in a clinic with facilities and entrust yourself to an experienced specialist in aesthetic dermatology. Very sensitive clients may request the use of a numbing ointment before the procedure.
How to behave after BTX treatment
You do not need to limit your work or social activities after the procedure, and with some minor restrictions, you can return to your normal life immediately. However, the following recommendations must be followed:
- 4 hours after the procedure
- do not bend over, do not lie in a horizontal position
- on the day of application
- allow yourself to rest
- do not touch the treated areas
- do not use cosmetic products
- 2 weeks after the procedure
- do not undergo cosmetic massage
- avoid sauna, steam room and other heat treatments
- avoid aesthetic treatments such as lasers, IPL, radiofrequency
Contraindications for wrinkle treatments
Your doctor will ask you during your consultation, but you should still know when wrinkle smoothing with BTX products is not appropriate. These are the following cases:
- pregnancy
- breastfeeding
- nervous disorders such as myasthenia gravis, Lamber-Eaton syndrome (LEMS) or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
- allergies
How long the wrinkle removal effect of BTX lasts
The effects of the applied substance are far from lifelong. Once the nerve supply is restored, the muscles become mobile again. As a rule, it is a good idea to repeat the application after 3 to 8 months. By regular application, the intervals between treatments are extended.
