Plastic surgery of the lower eyelids Pilsen

The eyes speak volumes about a person at first sight. While our eyes are open when we are young, as we age, wrinkles begin to appear around them and unsightly bags can form under the eyes, adding years to us and making us look tired. Modern medicine has a solution in the form of an operation called blepharoplasty - plastic surgery of the eyelids. Read what plastic surgery of the lower eyelids can do.

What is Blepharoplasty of the lower eyelids

Lower eyelid surgery is a procedure that surgically removes excess loose skin and sometimes fat prolapses in the area under the eyes and thus gets rid of unsightly bags under the eyes. Thanks to this, we achieve a total rejuvenation of the face. Lower eyelid surgery can be performed separately or combined with upper eyelid plastic surgery.

Consultation before plastic surgery of the lower eyelids

Plastic surgery of the lower eyelids takes place surgically and is performed by a plastic surgeon, with whom you will arrange a consultation before the operation. During it, the doctor will determine the condition of your skin and eye area and check whether you have the correct indication for lower eyelid surgery and whether you are a suitable candidate for the procedure.

During the consultation, you will also tell the doctor your wishes and expectations and you can ask everything you are interested in about lower eyelid surgery. We recommend that you prepare for the consultation so that you can get the maximum amount of information from it and thus be able to make the right decision about whether to undergo the operation.

Preparation for surgery

Lower eyelid plastic surgery is usually performed under local anesthesia, so there is no need to undergo any extensive pre-operative examinations. However, it is advisable to adjust the use of drugs that thin the blood in order to reduce the likelihood of hematomas. Smokers should reduce or, preferably, completely avoid smoking, which has been shown to impair tissue healing.

If, for some reason, general anesthesia is planned, a pre-operative examination will need to be arranged and the operation will need to be attended on an empty stomach.

The course of plastic surgery of the lower eyelids

Lower blepharoplasty is usually performed on an outpatient basis, under local anesthesia, without hospitalization. An exception is the so-called transconjunctival blepharoplasty, which is performed with the eye open and therefore requires general anesthesia.

We will invite you to the clinic in the morning before the procedure. After completing the administrative formalities, the nurse will take you to the room where the operator will draw the course of the surgical incisions. After that, the treated area is properly disinfected and we apply local anesthetic or general anesthesia (in the case of transconjunctival blepharoplasty or combined surgery).

In classic lower eyelid surgery, the incision is made at the edge of the lower eyelid. Chirug carefully reduces fat prolapses and excess skin. In transconjunctival blepharoplasty, the doctor removes the fat by accessing it through the conjunctiva. The advantage of this method is its gentleness and minimization of scars. Finally, the surgeon sews the edges of the skin together with a fine stitch.

After the procedure under local anesthesia, the patient usually leaves immediately for home care after being instructed, after general anesthesia he remains monitored for at least 2 hours.

After lower eyelid surgery

Healing after lower blepharoplasty usually takes place without serious complications and without significant pain. If you feel pain, it is possible to take commonly available analgesics. To reduce swelling and bruising, we recommend icing the eye area in the first 3 days after surgery. However, apply the cooling bags carefully, over a scarf or handkerchief. Ice for 10 to 15 minutes, then repeat after about 90 minutes.

Plan to rest for the first week after surgery. Sleep on your back with your head slightly elevated, ideally with an extra pillow to prevent swelling. Do not strain your eyes, skip reading, television, the computer and video entertainment on the phone. Reasonable walks are suitable. Avoid physical exertion and sports for two weeks after the procedure.

After 5 to 7 days, you will come to the clinic for a check-up and removal of the stitches. The doctor will also instruct you on further post-operative care.

For at least 3 months after surgery, we recommend consistent protection against UV radiation, which could cause unsightly hyperpigmentation in the scar area. A hat or visor and protective cream with SPF 50+ are suitable.

Lower eyelid surgery price

The price of plastic surgery of the lower eyelids depends on the total scope of the operation and whether the procedure is carried out separately or in combination with the surgery of the upper eyelids. The chosen type of anesthesia also affects the price of blepharoplasty, when general anesthesia is more expensive than local anesthesia. The doctor will tell you the exact price of your surgery during the consultation.
