Scar correction - effective methods and tips

Scars can be not only an aesthetic problem, but also a source of physical and emotional discomfort. However, thanks to modern methods of aesthetic medicine, it is possible to significantly improve their appearance or even remove them completely. In this article, we will look at the different ways to get rid of scars and what the process entails.

What are scars and how do they form??

Scars are the result of the skin's natural healing process after an injury. When the skin is damaged, the body tries to quickly restore its integrity, which leads to the formation of scars. Scars can be caused by injuries, burns, surgery or plastic surgery. They can also occur after acne or pregnancy. Some scars are small and do not interfere much with normal functioning, while others may be more visible and present an aesthetic problem.

Scar healing

The healing process begins with the formation of a blood clot to stop the bleeding. Inflammatory cells subsequently enter the wound, which accelerate healing and enable the gradual replacement of the missing tissue with collagen tissue. The new tissue is stiffer and smoother than normal skin, causing a different appearance and scarring.

Types of scars and their characteristics

There are several types of scars that differ in their appearance and healing process:

  • Smooth scars: Common scars that are soft, smooth and gradually fade.
  • Atrophic scars: Sunken below the level of the surrounding skin, often created after acne.
  • Hypertrophic scars: Raised above the surface of the skin, formed by an excessive amount of collagen.
  • Keloid scars: They grow beyond the original site of damage, can be painful and itchy, and are the least aesthetically pleasing.

Several factors influence the final appearance of a scar, including the depth, size of the injury, genetics, and the care given to the scar.

Traditional methods of scar removal

Traditional methods of scar removal include various techniques that can help improve the appearance and texture of scars, including:

  1. Massages and pressure therapies: Regular massaging of scars can help soften and smooth the tissue, while pressure therapies can minimize inflammation and prevent keloids from growing.
  2. Silicone patches and gels: These products hydrate and protect scars, promoting healing and softening.
  3. Corticosteroid injections: Used to treat hypertrophic and keloid scars to help reduce inflammation and scar size.

Effective massages and hydration

Pressure massages are very effective in preventing the formation of complicated scars, which help their fading, softening and overall maturing.

Patients should start massages a fortnight after surgery. It is advisable to use the belly of the finger and press on the scar so that the nail bed turns white. The pressure should be maintained for approximately fifteen seconds. Then it is necessary to release the pressure and move the finger to the next part of the scar. This procedure should be repeated along the entire length of the scar, while it is recommended to massage at least five times a day.

The initial pain should not discourage you, because with regular repetition of the massages, the pain will gradually subside.

Scar hydration is also very important. Although special and often expensive creams are available in pharmacies, the same results can be achieved with ordinary ointments. Unsalted lard, indulona, vaseline, pine or calendula ointment, or coconut oil or shea butter will work great..

Modern technology in scar removal

Thanks to advances in aesthetic medicine, technologies are available today that offer more effective and faster scar removal solutions:

  • Laser therapy: Lasers can precisely target scars and help restore smoothness and natural skin tone. Different types of lasers, such as fractional lasers, are often used to treat different types of scars.
  • Microneedling: This technique stimulates collagen production using fine needles that create tiny microtraumas on the surface of the skin. This process promotes tissue regeneration and improves the appearance of scars.
  • Chemical peels: Using chemicals to remove the top layer of skin can help soften the surface and reduce the appearance of scars.
  • Injection therapy: Corticosteroids, hyaluronic acid, or other agents can help reduce the height and redness of scars.
  • Surgical treatment of scars: In some cases, especially for extensive and deep scars, surgical correction may be necessary.

At our Hello Beauty Clinic, we often combine individual methods depending on the needs of the patient to achieve the maximum treatment effect.

Loss of tissue after injuries

Injuries can cause atrophy, which is a loss of tissue. There are several methods to compensate for this loss:

  • Hyaluronic Acid Fillers: Using a precise dose of cross-linked hyaluronic acid to fill in areas of tissue deficiency. This method is effective, but it is not permanent and requires repetition, the durability is about 9-12 months.
  • Lipotransfer (lipografting): Transfer of one's own fat from a place where there is enough of it to an area where tissue needs to be replenished. This procedure involves taking the fat, cleaning it and then applying it.

Acne: Hyaluronic acid

Cross-linked hyaluronic acid is also used in the treatment of acne scars. It helps to fill and smooth the affected area, thus improving the appearance of the skin. In addition, hyaluronic acid fillers help maintain skin hydration, which is key to its health and regeneration. Although this method brings significant improvement, it is important to remember that the results are not permanent and the procedure needs to be repeated.

Prevention is key

Prevention of scars is as important as their treatment. Adhering to proper wound care, such as cleaning, moisturizing, and protecting against infection, can significantly reduce the risk of visible scarring.

Aesthetic medicine offers a wide range of options for removing and improving the appearance of scars. A combination of different methods and technologies can bring optimal results. Whether it's simple home methods or advanced medical procedures, proper scar care can not only bring aesthetic improvement, but also boost your self-confidence. With professional help and proper care, you can achieve significant correction of the appearance of scars.
