How does BTX work

Neurotoxin (BTX), is a substance that acts on the nerve endings in the muscles. These are preparations using substances produced by specific bacteria Clostridium botulinum for their ability to block the transmission of nerve excitement in the muscles. When BTX is injected, muscle movement is temporarily restricted, resulting in smoother wrinkles. Most commonly, BTX is used to reduce facial wrinkles on the forehead, around the eyes (so-called "crow's feet") and between the eyebrows.

How are wrinkles formed?

The main cause of wrinkles is the natural aging process, whereby as you get older: 

• The structure of the skin changes - the skin loses its ability to regenerate and renew cells
• Connective tissue cells, called fibroblasts, form less collagen

All this means that the skin loses its elasticity, is less hydrated and therefore much more prone to wrinkles, especially those mimic wrinkles that form when we laugh, frown, wonder or get angry. The skin is not as well able to return to its original shape and fine lines appear at first and later deep lines may appear.
